Activities for Mastering Inferences - Book
Written by a Speech and Language Pathologist!
This resource provides a right and wrong picture for each set of questions to help children aged 7-9 years of age understand that looking and listening for hints can help them know what people mean even when they do not say the words.
Participants become “detectives” in looking and listening for hints. This popular book is accessible for young children who “do not get it” when people inferring meanings in conversation. For them, they may only truly understand concrete statements and do not understand or realise that inferencing exists in language use.
To use, a simple statement is said to them about the two pictures on a page. The child interprets the pictured clues to find the correct picture and then orally explains how they knew it was the right picture.
Fully photocopiable.
