MAKATON Core Vocabulary Signs Book

The new edition of the Core Vocabulary Signs Book includes updated line drawings, all the words listed in the Core Vocabulary wordlist plus the following additional IT concepts: mobile phone, website, to text, an email, to email, tablet, to send, laptop, printer, internet, fax machine, to fax, DVD, MP player, and iPod.

There is also an additional sign for Computer, using new technology, and an alternative sign for Toilet.

The Core Vocabulary is the starting point for everyone learning Makaton. Makaton® is used extensively all over the UK in pre-school, schools, centres, hospitals, clinics and in the homes of people with severe communication and learning difficulties. This A4 book contains all the signs used with the Makaton Core Vocabulary (Stages 1 to 8 and Additional). It contains vocabulary that is essential for use in everyday life. It is organised into specific categories:

• Early Stages contain the signs and symbols for immediate needs such as "drink", "eat" and "home".

This is often used as a "go to" reference tool to reinforce learning and also support use of signs following attendance at a Beginners’ or Foundation Workshop.

Makaton® Symbols and Signs are matched to all the concepts in the Makaton® Vocabulary to be used with speech, the written word or on their own. They provide a visual representation of language which increases understanding and makes expressive communication easier.
